Saris are worn with a petticoat and a blouse. The blouse piece often comes with the sari and needs to be stitched according to your size. However, you can also buy a readymade blouse. The blouse that is worn with a sari is garment that can be experimented with. It can be made in several kinds of styles and cuts, depending on your taste.

The skirt is called the lehenga, the blouse is called choli and the scarf dupatta, chunni or odhni. This attire comes in various types of fabric, embroidery and designs. Here again, the choli is the playground for designers.

Salwar Kameez: This attire is traditional as well as comfortable. It comes with a trouser, which can be a salwar or a churidaar, and a tunic above it, called the kameez. This is also worn with a duppatta. The kameez comes in different styles, cuts and embroidery.

Men’s clothing:

Men’s traditional clothes comprise sherwani and dhoti kurta.

Sherwani: This is much like the salwar kameez worn by women. It is worn with a churidaar, and a close fitting jacket that comes down to the shins. Sherwanis are generally gaudy, and are meant for parties.

Dhoti Kurta: A dhoti is like a sari. It is a piece of cloth that is draped in a certain way. A dhoti is worn with a kurta, which is like the kameez worn by women.
